The Beijing University of Technology (BJUT) was founded in 1960. It is a multidisciplinary University with a strong focus on engineering and innovation. Currently, it covers 9 disciplines including engineering, science, economics, management, philosophy, law, education, literature and art. Following this, the university has more than 21,000 students, including undergraduate studies, Master’s degree and Ph.D. candidates. After 58 years since its establishment, BJUT has fostered more than 130,000 graduates who are now playing a key role in all walks of life. This university has become an important base of talent cultivation for Beijing Municipality, a vital force for regional technological innovation, a crucial think tank for the city construction and development and a significant arena for international exchange and cooperation.

Campus

BJUT is located in the southeast area of Beijing, only 40 mins away from the Tiananmen square. Its campus has an area of 800,000 square meters including main dining halls, open green spaces, libraries and dormitories. Following this, students can benefit from all the common facilities provided by the university. The main library houses over 700,000 printed materials, 60,000 e-books and more than 40 kinds of database resources, forming a documentation resource system which meets the demands of teaching and research. Additionally, the athletic gymnasium covers over 24,000 square meters, and hosted the Badminton competitions of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Notable Remarks of BJUT

It is the only member of the National “211 Project” among the municipal universities in Beijing. This project has the intent of raising the research standards of high-level universities and cultivating strategies for socio-economic development. In order for BJUT to be a member, it has to offer advanced degree programs and accomplish certain scientific, technical, and human resources standards. Furthermore, BJUT ranks among the top 30 universities in mainland China, the 100th in the Asian university QS ranking of 2016, and with its disciplines of materials, engineering and chemistry being top 1% of the ESI international ranking. Following this, BJUT has been granted with many awards in the field of progress. These recognitions are the National Science & Technology Progress Award, and the Technology Progress Award. Both of them have being given to BJTU since 2006 every year, as to congratulate a project led by students.

International Exchange

BJUT has a wide group of partner universities which allow students to participate in the study abroad programs. Beijing University of Technology has signed different partnership connections with entities such as Nottingham University, University College Dublin and Beijing-Hong Kong University Alliance. This promotes the common development of both institutions, involving the joint training of high-level talents, exchange of teaching and research personnel, collaborative research and co-hosting of international academic conferences.
