Communication University of China (CUC) has an inter-relating and inter-influencing discipline system that covers journalism and communication, film & television arts, information science & technology, literature, engineering, management, economics, law and science. It’s motto is “integrity, professionalism, erudition and competence”. CUC is honored as “A cradle of China’s radio and television talents” and a “well-known university in the field of information communication”. As the prime academic research center in information communication, CUC focuses on the research of what to communicate and how to do it with a creative and high-tech way as well as there is focus with how to give better advisory services for the government and enterprises in decision- making. There are approximately 14,000 full-time students at CUC that consists of more than 9,000 undergraduates, and about 4,000 candidates for doctor and master degrees. There are also more than 10,000 students in programs of continuing education.

History

The Communication University of China used to be a training center for technicians of the Central Broadcasting Bureau in 1954. By 1949 it was upgraded to the Beijing Broadcasting Institute (BBI) approved by the State Council. And in 2004, the BBI was renamed Communication University of China (CUC). Since its establishment, CUC has cultivated a great number of talented students for the information and communication industry that have contributed extensively to China’s radio and television sector. Currently, the university is one of China’s key universities of “Project 211”, directly administered by the Ministry of Education. This project has the intent of raising the research standards of high-level universities and cultivating strategies for socio-economic development. In order for CUC to be a member, it has to offer advanced degree programs and accomplish certain specific, technical and human resources standards.

Campus

CUC is located in the eastern part of Beijing near the ancient canal, which occupies 463,700 square meters of land and a total of 499,800 square meters of buildings. It has a very complete number of research centers such as the Audiovisual Technology and Intelligent Control System Key Laboratory, the National Engineering Research Center for Radio and Television Network and the Radio and Television Transmission Ministerial Key Laboratory. The university has a 19 institutes and research centers offered to its academic community. In addition to this, CUC is well-equipped with a multimedia network, digital cable network, library literature information resources network, and modern distance learning education web. Following this, the infrastructures such as multimedia classrooms, studios, laboratories and a library network with rich information in both electronic and hardcopy are also well-resourced in CUC.

Notable Remarks of CUC

CUC has stablished a strong collaboration with more than 200 renowned overseas universities. And thus, many important events in the field of media and communications have been held at the university. The “International Alliance of Higher Education in Communication” was held by CUC in 2009. Representatives from 65 world-leading universities in media across 27 countries and regions signed the "MLeague Declaration". Furthermore, CUC is also one of the teaching units of “Media and Women” of the UNESCO. Besides, International academic organizations such as the Asian Media Research Center and European Media Research Center have been set up by the CUC.

International students’ dormitory is at International Center on campus. International Center does not accept reservation. Students may apply for rooms in person after registration at International Students’ Office with Accommodation Form.

You can also rent an apartment off campus. You must report and register your address within 24 hours after your moving-in at local police station and get Temporary Accommodation Registration. You do not need to register when you are temporarily living in a hotel.

Accommodation fees can be paid by year, by semester, by month or by season. Deposit: US$150. Students pay internet costs.

International students who stay less than one month, pay higher rates than the fees quoted below. All costs are subject to change. Quoted per person per day.
